Tracing a death after 1958
« on: Sunday 08 October 17 11:01 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I was wondering if there was any way of tracing a death after 1958 in Ireland. I know of a relative who died in 1985 but I haven't been able to find a birth record for him, so wondered if there was an index I could check that gave age at death. I'm not at all au fait with Irish records, so apologies for such a basic query!

Thanks
Matt :)

Where in Ireland ? North or South
if South you could possibly find a Will or Probate here
http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/wills-testamentary-records/
or North
https://apps.proni.gov.uk/WillsCalendar_IE/WillsSearch.aspx

You could also Google the persons name died 1985 you might get a reference to burial etc

Newspaper records would be a good place to look. It's fairly standard to put a death notice in the paper here.  You can get a €10 subscription for 24 hours to the irishnewsarchive.com and try the national papers like the Irish Independent or Irish Press, or go local if you know where they lived.
