Amelia Ryder of Mountsorrel Completed
« on: Sunday 08 October 17 19:26 BST (UK) »
Help please.

Amelia Ryder, born 1869 Mountsorrel, Leicestershire.

I have her on the 1871 census living with the family in Mountsorrel, name is spelt Rider by the census.

I also have her on the 1881 census living with her aunt in Nottingham (Marth Mann) with the correct spelling of the family name (Ryder) at 15 park street.

Amelias father Fred (Francis) Ryder died of a lung infection picked up on a pig farm at Bottesford and the family moved back in with their Grandfather at Beggs Yard.

This has always bugged me that she drops off the face of the earth. She has good family connections with Nottingham, Leicester Central, Belvior, Melton. I would really appreciate any help or ideas anyone can give me.

Kind regards.

Leicestershire: Inglesant. Ryder. Rider. Walford. Massey. Daykin/Daikin. Newbold/Newball. Hammonds.
Great Yarmouth: Gage/Gedge. Ives. Feasley. Peartree. Royall.
Northampton, Laxton Kings Cliffe. Hercock, Heircock. Harecock. Pointon. Baxter. Burfield.
And anyone else who knows me it would seem ;-)

Hi,

Welcome to RootsChat :)

If I'm looking at the right family in 1871 Amelia has a sister Charlotte aged 2months. Did Francis marry Eliza INGLESANT in 1868? if so these look like the girl's births and Amelia is registered as Emma,

Emma RIDER    Dec Q 1868    Barrow Upon Soar    7a  131
mmn:  INGLEMENT

Charlotte RYDER    Mar Q 1871    Barrow Upon Soar    7a  145
mmn:  INGLESANT

That would fit with this death,

Emma RYDER    Jun Q 1884    Barrow Upon Soar    7a  80
Age:  15

Regards,
Daisy

Yes, Fred (Francis) Ryder (Rider) Married Eliza Inglesant in 1868.

Amelia shows up on two census as Amelia, but I'm pretty sure you are right, its quite sad how they all died so young.

There are other Emma Riders (Ryders) in the area and indeed in the family, even of a very similar age, perhaps thats why the called her Milly (Amelia)...

I'm quite a novice, I am curious how your birth registration shows the mothers maiden name, I have FindMyPast and Ancestry (full access) and it did not show up on either.

I'm very appreciative of your help, thank you ;-D

Also Thank you keyboard 88, I found that sad document, I was hoping she had gone on to a nice life but there you go ;-( funny how I spent months looking and all of a sudden its sorted.

I've registered with the Government site, very handy, thank you. I feel slightly annoyed at FindMyPast and Ancestry, they are not cheap, you expect them to be all singing all dancing!

DaisyPetal you nailed it,thank you!
