Incidentally, Presbyterians in Ireland don't use banns. All their marriages used to be by licence or special licence.

Like Elwyn I had thought Presbyterians did not use Banns but recently I transcribed a Presbyterian Church register going back to 1845 and found almost half the early marriages were "after Banns", not licence.
