Help with finding correct marriage
« on: Monday 09 October 17 04:18 BST (UK) »
I have been given information from my grandad about his mum Nellie wibberley nee Field. We know her farther is Joseph and that she had a brother called Jack.

My issue is how do find out who Joseph married?
I have a few census returns with a Joseph field and daughter Nellie but none have a jack.
Now we also do know that jack is definately a son as he is listed on the death certificate I ordered for Joseph.
Birth indexes so far haven’t helped me either as none of those with jack field list a mother’s maiden name.
Any other approaches would be grateful appreciated as I can’t just go and buy the 3 jack field births and then the Nellie field ones lol

Gosh that was long eh?
There are other siblings too to add to all the mix
Holmfirth, Austonley, Hoylandswaine etc: WIBBERLEY and FIELD
Marriages from above names to....CROOKS, WHITELEY, KAYE, DEARNALLY
Waterford, Ireland: POWER and SULLIVAN (Osullivan also)

If that death is right then she'd have been about a week old at the time of the 1901 census (taken on 31 Mar 1901), so this Nellie looks promising:

Hi there

You haven't given us any clues as to dates or exact locations.  Is this Nellie's marriage for context?

Jun qtr 1926

Robert Wibberley
Nellie Field

Huddersfield 9a 658

The marriage took place on 3 April 1926 at St David's, Holmbridge.  Robert was 27 and Nellie 25, both residing at Holmbridge.  Her father was named as Joseph Field, labourer; witnesses were Frank Wibberley and Ethel May Field.

Yes that is the correct wedding and the only certain thing about it all.

Joseph field died 19th March 1952 in which his son Jack Field was in attendance. Retired farmer. Outlane, netherthong

I found a listing for a jack field born Oct/nov/dec 1918 which would work with the fact that the two census I have found have not had a jack on it. Jack was still alive in 1981 and 1983 as I found phone book entry and grandad confirmed it was the right street he knew he lived at. I then found a possible death for him by working out his age for 1998 aged 80.

I have a 1911 hazlehead,nr Sheffield and 1901 hill top, hoylandswaine census that has Joseph field and Anna field with a child called Nellie. And 2 other siblings.

I found a few births within hoylandswaine for Nellie so couldn’t confirm which was the one I needed.

Nellie and Robert had 7 children all together.
Robert died 5/10/1969 at outlane, netherthong
Also had a few notes on a possible death for Nellie in 1982 but again I’m unsure.

My grandad is so bad with dates and places so I’m having to juggling all the hints I do get from him
Holmfirth, Austonley, Hoylandswaine etc: WIBBERLEY and FIELD
Marriages from above names to....CROOKS, WHITELEY, KAYE, DEARNALLY
Waterford, Ireland: POWER and SULLIVAN (Osullivan also)

Looking back through my notes now....
My grandad said Nellie definately had siblings called jack (who married a nurse but doesn’t know her name) and a Gladys (who married frank wibberley) he said there was a sister who married a whiteley but when I mentioned the name Martha (who I have seen the record saying married Thorpe whiteley) he said no he doesn’t think that was her name.

When I searched Joseph field I got a few births for the same year so again couldn’t confirm, just had the details printed if I needed them, not being able to him down to a wedding and place etc is what has caused most of my fuss.
