Surname Amess
« on: Monday 09 October 17 11:02 BST (UK) »
I am starting a one-name study of the surname Amess - so far I can only get information on my 3 x maternal great grandfather (Robert Amess born c.1823 in Sutton Norfolk - his father was also called Robert and was a farmer according to his marriage certificate
His marriage certificate states that he married Mary Ann Lechmere on 15/12/1851 in London

Variants of the surname Amess may include: Ames; Amiss; Amis; Amys; Amies for example

Any information or help on my search will be greatly appreciated

The marriage of
Robert Amess father Robert abode Brixton
to
Mary Ann Lechmere abode Brixton father Charles Lechmere
took place in London 15/12/1851

I think your first follow up would be to look for this couple on 1861 census for starters

There are family trees listed on Ancestry with Robert and Mary Ann listed, it would appear they had at least 7 children

so far found
