What regiment is this?
« on: Tuesday 10 October 17 03:33 BST (UK) »
Hi

I found this photo online, and it is of my 3 x Great Aunt's husband.

He was born in Cardiff, Wales in 1882.

Can anybody identify the regiment from this?

It looks like the top of the photo is ripped, hence I can't show the full cap badge.

Thanks,

Darin (Newcastle upon Tyne, England).

The cap badge and shoulder titles both are the Welsh Regiment.

The pattern of dress was certainly WW1 although it continued to be worn into the 1930s.

Do you have a name for him?

Yes.

Patrick Carney born Cardiff, Wales 1882.

His wife's death certificate from Cardiff, 1919 does state that he was a General Labourer - Ex-Army.

Thanks.

No military records found for him, unfortunately.  70% or so of service records were destroyed in WW2 by bombing and the lack of a medal card simply means the man didn't go overseas.  There are medal cards for other Carneys in the Welsh Regiment but no personal identifying detail.
