Absolutely, Sandra. I was gobsmacked at how promptly I received the scan of that obit -- and at no charge!

Wow, excellent service, two thumbs up LPL.

It looks like 94 to me as well. The 4 in April 24, looks similar.

Interesting, he was a resident of Toronto, yet was buried in London.

Yes, DB, I think it IS 94. I was informed that the original newspaper is not in good nick, having degraded with time, but I was sent the best scans possible.

Although John Brown Yule lived in Toronto, he was interred in Woodland Cemetery, London, because that cemetery is designated for CEF veterans apparently.

Cheers,

Rodeo

The nationality of John Brown Yule is recorded in the 1911 census as Canadian, indicating that he was naturalised prior to 1915, those naturalisation records not being available online.

There are no naturalization records for immigrants from the UK. It wasn't until 1947 that Canadian citizenship was established. Prior to that time, Canadians were considered British citizens.

From Library and Archives Canada:

Quote
From 1763 until the Canadian Citizenship Act came into force on January 1, 1947, people born in Canada were all British subjects. Since immigrants born in Great Britain and the Commonwealth were already British subjects, they had no need to become naturalized or to obtain British citizenship in Canada.

Hi,

Library and Archives Canada has just announced the completion of the digitization of their
WW1 service files.

Here's John's, click on the PDF for his file. It's very slow to load.
