Kathleen May PIKE - b.circa 1884

Bertram Vernon married Kathleen May Pike at Devonport in Q4 1906 (5B 792). He was a soldier from Derbyshire. By 1811 the family was billeted in South Africa with their first son Harold Esnie and Katherine stated that she was born in Winchester, Hants.

They ended up in Edinburgh and died 23 years apart in East Calder, Mid-Lothian (1945 and 1968). They are buried along with their second son Norman Wallace - I've even tracked down a photo of the headstone.

..... but where did Kathleen actually come from? I can find no record of a Kathleen May Pike prior to her marriage - any suggestions?

Who does she name as her father on the marriage certificate?

The marriage took place in the registry office - witnesses Percy Andress & Rose Annie Andress (nee Fowler married Sep qtr 1906)  so no chance of finding it online.

Kathleen M Pike ( South Stoneham 1885 ) was born Shirley , Hants according to the 1891 and was still single in 1911 .

That's Kathleen Mary and she re-appears in 1911 as a servant in Kings Norton so it's not her.

Unfortunately, I don't have a copy of the birth cert.

I'm beginning to wonder if she'd been married before (or was still married!).
