Help with date please Mckinnon Falkirk
« on: Thursday 12 October 17 17:01 BST (UK) »
This photo was taken in Falkirk, Scotland. Assuming that he also lived in that town, the fact that he is balding and that this photo was in my uncle's family history file suggests to me that he is a Mckinnon...but who.
Being able to put a date to this photo would greatly assist me in working out who he may be. I am hoping that there is something particular about his tie and collar that might help.
Thanks in advance.

Going by the winged collar and the double breasted coat with wide lapels on his 3 piece suit, and his moustache,  I am guessing 1890s.  Bit of a wide date. :-\ and could be completely wrong.

Hope one of the good dating people will come in soon.   :)

Are you able to post the entire photo complete with corners, and the back of it also? - that would help the dating people.   ;)

That suit looks an expensive heavy cloth, probably wool worsted, the side pocket over cover look well used, does not look like he's posing in a studio, but more like a man at his job, ready to read the content or inspect the paper with what look like some kind of specs or magnifying glass in his hand.

Important business man or accountant maybe.

In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth

Difficult to date this photo by clothing style alone (depends on individual taste), Neville Chamberlain was still wearing this type of collar and tie when he met Hitler in 1938.

As Wiggy posted:

Was going to mention that my father was wearing similar fashion in the 1930s - (but not that collar or moustache . . . . )   but as you say. . . . . .     :D

Think he 'looks' older than that though don't you?

My try, with him wearing his cheaper suit - only two buttons on the sleeve.  ;D
Cheers, Peter.

And just in case you'd like a black and white.
Cheers, Peter.
