St Patrick's National School 1890 - Waterford City
« on: Thursday 12 October 17 18:53 BST (UK) »
Found some of my ancestors school records. They attended St Patrick's National School in Waterford. Where was this located i.e. was it by the Infirmary or by what is now the De La Salle  College?

The years of attendance are the late 1880's into the 1890's. Is a photo for the  school at this time still in existence today because if one is I'd love to get hold of a copy.

Any hints at all, a teacher's name than might be in the 1901 Census perhaps, on the old map of Waterford City I can see at least 19 National Schools

The names aren't on most of them.

This didn't come up on the Historic Layer but I assume Sch stands for school, right next to St Patrick's church.

Sinann I would probably agree, this is where the school was as the family lived close by in Cathedral Square. Many thanks for that.

Sinann Pretty sure you've nailed it now. I think the early Waterford map you showed me locates it near to the quay at Great Georges Street near Jenkins Lane. I believe that is where it was back in the early part of the 20th century. This wasn't like a modern school building but something closer to the size of a house, which the censuses confirm. I believe it no longer exists or to put it another way became a residential property again. Thank you so much for your help
