This is all brilliant thank you so much. I knew there were lots of Metcalfs in Yorkshire but I had expected mine to have come over from Ireland.

I have a 'Thomas Metcalf/e' ancestor about the same time and area as yours, but there seems to be quite a few of them  :-\
Do you know which denomination your Metcalf's were?

Father Thomas is from Yorkshire (varies on the 51, 61 and 71 census as to where)

Just to say I think the 51, 61 and 71 are for two different families. I think the 51 census is the correct family and Thomas dies in 1859 (Metcalfe) and Hannah possibly in 1857 (Mitcalf) but you would have to look at further records to be sure.
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

This burial from DRO seems more likely for Ann, though the age doesn't fit: 1873, Ann Metcalf of Ravensworth Street aged 43.
