I may be way off here as there are a lot of Stokes around in Holme.

Was you John born c 1793 Ramsey, Occp Farmer in 1851 Census?
Sarah his Wife born Norfolk?
Grandson William c 1839 Holme with them in 1851?

If so William seems to be the Son of John?Mary in 1841;

Thanks Millipede and Trish. All the Stokes you mention seem to fit in somewhere with my ancestors. Sarah Stokes married Ben Slote my g-g Grandparents. Sarah died in 1840 aged 27 so 1813 looks like her birth. The Sarah baptised in 1823 could still be the right one as "brother" Henry was born c.1813. There are 3 John Stokes too at that time so it gets complicated. One John Stokes  who married Sarah Bransum is noted as John Snr. Sarah Slotes's first child was called Johnson which points to her father and mother being John and Ann Johnson, Ann perhaps died and John remarried a Sarah. Ben and Sarah Slote lived next door to John and Sarah Stokes. Thanks again!

Thanks Millipede and Trish were correct. The Will of John Stokes of Holme Fen (died 1856) shows his late daughter as Sarah SLOTE and mentions her 4 children from her marriage to Benjamin SLOTE my G-G-Grandfather. Great Will - thanks again!
