Finding a grave - Glasgow
« on: Friday 13 October 17 20:17 BST (UK) »
Hi
I wonder if anyone could please point me in the right direction.  I am looking for two graves.  One of my great-grandfather whom I know died in 1915 at the Eastern District Hospital in Glasgow. A catholic whom I suspect but can't be sure is buried at St Kentigern's Cemetery nr Lambhill.

The other person whom I'm looking for is my 2 x great-grandfather whose dc I cannot find although I know that he died in 1898.  The place of Glasgow with date and year is given in a probate document.

I have looked at Deceased online, Billion Graves,Find a Grave etc. with no joy.  Also there is a pdf I found listing names from St K's again no joy.  Pretty positive there would not be headstone.  Are the records for St Kentigern's at the Mitchell Library?  Or maybe they have been transcribed by one of the Scottish FHS's?

Thx in advance, CD

CD, not sure you saw the responses to some of the questions here on
www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=642455.0

Why don't you add some a name and some details for that 1898 death you have yet to find and hopefully others here can try to help you.

ADDED: Ahh...long old search you have had... www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=733386.0

Hi MonicaL-
Thanks for your reply - yes, I remembered asking before and not really getting very far (nor could I find the thread!  :-[) The memento-mori suggested had nothing.   I also remembered  someone confirming Mitchell Library, but I think I was hoping that some digitisation or transcription project may have been in progress having not made it up to Glasgow.  I've only in the last 2 years found out about my 2x g grandfather dying in Glasgow.  I keep hoping to find the time to make it to the Mitchell but I'm doubtful that it will happen this year.  I wonder do you happen to know- is there an online index to the films at the Mitchell Library ? I think I would feel a little better prepared if I could get some film numbers lined up?
CD
Thanks again.

CD, there is nothing available online from the Mitchell Library.

With the mention of Dalbeth in Glasgow from Skoosh, you mention you have found it now. Have you found it from Scotlands People? They have the only online database. I did have a quick look yesterday for you, but could not easily see anything unfortunately.

Thanks for your help Monica L , I appreciate it.

If I can't get up to Glasgow, I suppose my last port of call will be finding & paying a researcher in Glasgow to do some look ups.  Hey ho...

Some Roots-chatters are very knowledgeable about St Peter's, Dalbeth, try the search box, apparently there's a findagrave facility.
