Agnes and James Allison from Scotland to Australia
« on: Sunday 15 October 17 04:16 BST (UK) »
I am researching Agnes and James Allison who came to Australia from Scotland.
Agnes was the daughter of Alexander Mair and Agnes Gray and was born 2/02/1794 Old Monkland or Coatbridge, Lanarkshire. James Allison was born abt 1805 Strathaven Lanarkshire.
James and Agnes children; Agnes Allison b. abt 1834 she married William Nancarrow 1860, she died in Queensland 1877. James Mair Allison b. abt 1824 married Jane Torrens McIntosh, he died in 1904 NSW. Alexander Allison b. 1836 married Sarah Collins 1865, he died 1890 Warialda NSW. Hugh Allison b. abt 1839 married Hannah Kent 1860, he died 1878.
Agnes Allison (Mair) died 1875, she is buried Kunopia Station, NSW. James Allison died 20 Sept 1868 Oakey Creek, District Coonabarabran, he is buried Oakey Creek.
I would love to hear from anyone researching this family. I am particularly interested in information about James Allison snr and Agnes Allison (Mair)
Kind regards,
Allison Terry  :)

Allison started out here: http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=780139.0 looking for the grave of James Allison Sr. so there is a bit of info there for anyone helping in the search (in particular his death record transcription).

austcemindex has some information re the Kunopia cemetery.  There are some photos, including the memorial for Anna, wife of Hugh, and (later) wife of Edward BRUEN, also for Agnes, listed as daughter of Hugh.  Hugh is mentioned but there is no photo of any memorial for him.

Hi Allison,

I am sure you know I am not a family member …. But ….

Do you have either of the following?
NSW Electoral Roll 1902 GWYDIR, polling at Coolah
James Mair ALLISON, Oakey Creek, grazier
Jane ALLISON, Oakey Creek, domestic duties
Margerite Ann ALLISON, Oakey Creek, domestic duties

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=369703.0
Sands Pastoral Directory 1903
COONABARABRAN
Jas D ALLISON,  Oakley Creek, Coolah,  71 Horses, 47 Cattle, 25,477 Sheep  (Yes, that’s not a JM typo, the document has Oakley)

Sands Pastoral 1900
ALLISON J.M. Oakey Creek, Coolah, Coonabarabran Stock District
ALLISON J.M. Coomoo Coomoo, Willow Tree, Tamworth Stock District

Do you need further look-up help, or are you hoping for contact from family history buffs who have shared ancestors with your Allison family?

Hi there,
Thank you to everyone who has posted information about the Allison family. I really appreciate it. I haven't checked the posts till now and I was really surprised to read all this new information that has been posted. I don't have anything related to census details or anything for any of the Allison's so this all fantastic research. Just when I thought there was nothing more to be discovered.
Thank you again
Cheers Allison 😊

Hi everyone,
I haven't had much luck in finding out more about James and Agnes Allison. I did have one stroke of luck when I came across thekingscandlesticks. There was a lot of interesting information and I was able to email someone who has directed me to the person who did the research on the Allison family. I just need to patiently wait for a reply.
Thank you again to the people who have already provided alot of accurate and interesting information.
Cheers Allison 😊
