Have found in  1901 census a Richard Dewsbury aged 20,born Crosby,  fisherman, living with his parents and siblings, Brighton Road, Waterloo!!!!!

Just for clarity, the Brighton Road in which the Dewsburys lived is not Brighton Road in Waterloo. It was Brighton Road in Crosby, which is the present-day Jubilee Road. All the houses (mid 19th century terraced dwellings) are still standing.

Am I understanding it correctly that the Dewsbury family lived in Crosby not Formby?

Yes but there is a railway line in the way. The railway line runs past the far end of Jubilee Road.
