By way of evidence, the owner of Barnshill/Barnsole Farm in the 1820's was Edward Read. He died there in 1835 and the death announcement refers to his abode as Barnshill near Staple

An 1845 court report (Canterbury Journal 12 April 1845) describes him as Mr Reed of Barnsole Farm, Staple.

Thanks for the additional information. I hadn't got around to check out his cause of death but I imagine it must have been a painful death.
Also thanks for the information about the farm owner. I will investigate this further.
