Margaret Ann Sharrock 1864
« on: Monday 16 October 17 16:17 BST (UK) »
Hi guys and girls,

Just curious if anyone can help me solve a tiny mystery. I have the marriage for the above Margaret Ann Sharrock to William Hargreaves on December 26th, 1883 in Wigan. Margaret is listed as being 19, and her father as Samuel Sharrock (Carter).

However - I can't find a Margaret (Ann) Sharrock in any census prior to 1883 with a father down as Samuel.

Can anyone help me find Margaret & Samuel?

Thanks very much

Keelan :)

Who are the witnesses to the marriage, does it give an 'abode' for Margaret.

Where do you have her on the census following her marriage

The witnesses to the marriage were James & Jane Unsworth, I have done a quick search to see of any Unsworth/Sharrock marriages but none seemed to fit those names.

Margaret's abode on the certificate looks like Stalt Lane, or Slatt Lane - it's hard to tell.

In 1891 William & Margaret Hargreaves are living at 21 Bird Street in Ince in Makerfield with their three sons (William, Joseph, and Levi) and James who is William Sr.s son from a previous marriage.

Margarets age is given as 28, and being born in Ince, Lancashire.

Possibly down as Sharratt in 1881 at 10 Union Street, Ince in Markerfield
Samuel Sharratt 61 Coal Miner born Blackrod, Lancs
Margaret A Sharratt 17 born Aspull, Lancs
Ellen Alice Sharratt 11 born Ince, Lancs

Also in Ince in 1871 at Brook Street ( transcribed as Sharrah on Ancestry)
Margaret age 7 ( wrongly transcribed as 27) born Aspull with parents Samuel age 49 born Blackrod and Catherine age 42 born Pemberton, Lancs and various siblings.

So Samuel Sharratt (sp) and Catherine Berry would have been Margaret's parents. Margaret's first daughter was called Catherine also, so this could be after her own mother.

I wonder if Samuel Sharratt/Sharrock changed his occupation to Carter between 1881 and 1883, or maybe Margaret got it wrong on the record.

Thanks for the help!
