The Irish Flax Growers list of 1796 shows a Parish or Barony called Dungarvan in Mayo eg

Surname First Name Parish/Barony County
Melody Michael Dungarvan Mayo

Any idea where that is?

Hello,

It is difficult I suppose because we are looking at transcriptions but I wonder if it should be Kilgarvan - there are variations of the Melody name in that civil parish in other records.

That's a good suggestion, as most Mayo Melody's seemed to live there.

I was looking at this last night and thinking the same thing, there are I think 4 surnames on the Flax Growers list with Dungarven Mayo, I tried each of them on the Tithe Applotment books but only Melody was in Kilgarvan at that time. Not sure what use if any that is  though.
