Thanks for correcting me. I am getting confused with generations of William Barretts. In fact, I have reason to believe that William Barrett (1863-1931) is the chap standing far right in the photo. His father Major William Barrett (1823-1914) is the man I should have referred to as wielding the bat. That would make him in his mid-sixties when the photo was taken.

I also was thinking it looked from a later date until I found this photo with very similar attire

Arthur Conan Doyle pictured with the cricket team which toured Holland in 1891.

Yes, Conan Doyle's tour with Norwood C.C. Even modest players sported their old school and club blazers like badges of honour.

Hi Grossy,
my interest is purely historical and i regularly haunt this forum. I am a cricket buff who is currently writing a local history book - "One Hundred Years of Euroa and District Cricket" - incorporating the EDCA and AEDCA - 1904 to 2007.
My family has roots around Gloucestershire and Somerset with DNA ties to Herefordshire.
I also just liked the photograph.
All the best.

Girl Guide - very familiar with the resources of the Somerset Cricket Museum. I have co-authored, with Stephen Hill, two books on Somerset Cricketers(vol 1:1882-1914 & vol 2:1919-1939) and we have had excellent support from the Museum and the Club. This photo however is beyond them. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Jack - Good luck with the book. I know what a labour of love it can be!
