New York or England ? Lost relative!
« on: Tuesday 17 October 17 11:11 BST (UK) »
Percy Robert Edwards born 1 Feb 1882 in Babcary, Somerset.

He is at home on the family farm until 15 April 1914 when he leaves from Southampton on the Olympic bound for New York.

He is on the 1915 New York State census in the household of Charles Holloway in Bayside.
He is listed as a servant, a horse trainer. ( dob is wrongly given as 1885)

Can anyone find him after this please?

For identification parents are Robert and Hannah.

Hi,
I searched and got Percy R Edwards border crossing to Canada.
First of all I wasn't sure if this was your Percy as it says he was fro Ireland.
BUT, when I looked closer it states that he arrived in New York on the Olympic.
It must be an error as the guy above him was from Ireland.
Also he is listed in the Electoral Rolls up to 1963 in Canada.
I have sent the document via Private Message.

Maggie is Percy on his own on the electoral rolls?

This fits time wise for Percy as he has been losing three years in age since he left England. If I am understanding the border record correctly he has moved from  New York where he was in 1915 to Montreal in 1921?
And he is now married? But no sign of his wife?
Also he is a merchant and not a horse trainer?

I am worried and not completely 100% sure so I think more checking to be certain he is the same man although the ship is a good start.

About the 1921 border crossing record.....

This Percy arrived in NYC in July 1910 on the Olympian, not 1914. He states he was only in the USA in 1910, having reported his last departure from the USA was 1910.

This would seem to preclude his being in NYC in 1914 and 1915.

His birth place is also recorded as Wexford Ireland (although could be in error, as mentioned earlier).

We can't do lookups of the 1911 UK census but have you found Percy with his widowed mother in it?

IMHP, this Percy does not appear to be yours.

Glenclare, I will send these docs. via PM.
Percy R Edwards left on the 8th April 1914 on the Olympic ticket number 2108808.
This matches the date on the Border Crossing to Canada.
The Census in 1911 was taken on the 2nd April.
Yes, I see him in 1915 n the USA.
Charles Holloway named the next son after Percy in the 1920 Census.
There were 17 Percy (with a different initial) Edwards that went to New York and 8 that went on to Canada, all born between 1879 and 1885, they travelled 1908 to 1923.
The guys that were from Ireland would have picked up the ship in Cork.
It says left Southampton but doesn't say where it called to pick up more passengers.

I agree... Here is the 1921 border crossing document.  It says that this Percy was only in the USA in 1910... and was just passing through.  Sounds like he didn't stay, so can't be the man in the 1915 census in New York.

Not sure if this refers to Percy R Edwards in Lethbridge  ???  If it does this would be the FIND A GRAVE entry for that gentleman which would discount him.

Percy Robert Edwards born July 1888  New South Wales Australia. Passed away August 1965 Lethbridge Alberta Canada.
