Looking for a marriage
« on: Tuesday 17 October 17 14:53 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone

I'm looking for the marriage of Harry Peyton Moulton-Barrett to a Mabel Alice Gertrude (surname unknown) but don't no where start looking.

In 1911 Mabel is a visitor in the household of James Bayley.  She was born in India.  Also in the household was her son, Edward Selwyn Moulton-Barrett who was aged 15 years.  He was also born in India.

What I would really like to know is whether Mabel was the sister of James Bayley's wife, Constance Ogbourne.  However, in the relationship column it says visitor rather than sister-in-law.

Hope someone can help.

In 1901 Mabel and son Edward are with parents Charles and Albertina Ogbourne so yes I believe Mabel and Constance were sisters.

Christine and Milliepede you are so clever...I can't thank you both enough.  Now I have the proof.  Albertina is buried at Wistaston in Cheshire next to her son-in-law James Bayley who died as a result of a gunshot wound to the head in 1933.

Wonder what the family were doing in India?

Charles Henry Ogbourne married Alberta Mirabella Dowleans 22 Jul 1865 at St Paul's Calcutta
( His father William Webb Ogbourne decd. . her father Albert Mirabeau Dowleans  ).

Charles Henry Ogbourne's occupation was Manager of Albert Life Assurance Company. If you Google the company you can find out about its origins , connections with Freemasonry and India , and the failure of the Company in 1869. ( A lot of coverage in the newspapers if you have access ).

Hi Christine

This is all so interesting.

Funnily enough this research was initiated out of curiosity because I was watching an old TV series on Youtube which mentioned Elizabeth Barrett Browning.  Wanting to learn more about her I googled her and found that her father was a Moulton-Barrett.  Having remembered the name previously from the 1911 census I wondered whether there was a family connection, and it turns out that there is one.  How strange.
