George Edwards and Mary??
« on: Tuesday 17 October 17 21:30 BST (UK) »
Hi,

George Edwards, my great x4 grandfather was baptised on 3 March 1811 in Albury, Surrey. His parents were John and Elizabeth.

In 1841 he's living in Albury with his wife Mary, and children Ellen, James, and Jane. He's a shoemaker.

In 1851 he's with Mary, and more kids. Still a shoemaker. Mary's age is 39 and here she gives her birthplace as Shere.

He dies in 1851 and so in 1861 Mary is a shoemaker's widow in Albury, aged 51. In 1871, she's apparently 61.

So according to the censuses her year of birth could range between 1810 and 1812 and in 1851, 1861 and 1871 her birthplace is given as Shere.

Not to be confused with another George Edwards born circa 1811 who lived in Shere and married a Martha!!

But I have never found Mary, never found a marriage, and it's a bit of a dead end for me so thought I'd see if anything came up on here :) Thank you.

Thanks all.

Cranleigh/Cranley to Albury is 7-8 miles. It says they are both of the parish though. I think I need to see the parish records/banns for extra info to prove/disprove.

Fuller details of the marriage
St Nicolas Cranleigh Surrey
23 April 1832 after banns
George Edwards otp Bachelor
Mary Wood also otp Spinster
witnesses Esther Ansell & Arthur Ansell

wonder if the Ansell's were related??

1841 in Shere there is Arthur Ansell age 50 b in county - and strangely a few doors away there is a Mary Wood age 65 b in county
of course their ages would be rounded down to the nearest 5 years
