Thank you, Bookbox. That's interesting. It also creates a conundrum because all the NE Donkerleys of that era I have investigated were Catholic and remained Catholic for several decades before giving in and becoming C of E in total, not just for marriages and burials.

I appreciate the time you have given me. I will now mark this thread completed.

Hello again, Bookbox,

Apologies for bothering you again, but a thought occurs though it's not handwriting deciphering, but behaviour deciphering.

The priest was an educated man trained to exert some authority over people. Does his use of the honourific  "Domini/Master" for this person (even in reminder notes to himself) indicate some status for this Donkerley? Status because of position or money? Or could it be status because of education as in the Scots use of the term for schoolmaster? Or am I reading too much into it?
