David Cressy born Beverley c1807
« on: Wednesday 18 October 17 15:18 BST (UK) »
I have traced David Cressy in the 1851 to 1881 censuses and in each census he is recorded as having been born in Beverley.  His age always ends in a four, starting as 44 in 1851 giving a consistent birth year c1807.

I cannot find any record of his birth.

Can anyone help please?

I'd looked at the birth registrations for the two girls from this family and found mother's maiden name as Kirk.

Freebmd has a marriage - September quarter 1838 in Marylebone with David Cressey and Sarah Kirk on the same page.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Richard 2/5/1795
Elizabeth 23/3/1799
Aaron 19/4/1803

Again - no abode or father's occupation given.

That's absolutely brilliant, thanks.  I've been bashing my head against brick walls with this guy and his family, it was only a sampler sewn in 1861 by one of his daughters with her age that my cousin has that unlocked all her history and her fathers.

Now I've got to find him in 1841. I'll home in to St Marylebone in case he was still there, he doesn't come up on searches I've tried so far but your information above didn't either.

Many thanks again.

Try HO 107/732/3

David Cressey b 1808 a Male Servant - Parish of St George's Hanover Square.
Address Belgrave Square, North Side.

Not born in County.

However his family are not with him -- so maybe this is his work place.

This again was from Find My Past and I see the second 's' has been given it's elongated form -- so may have been transcribed differently on Ancestry.
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

Try Ancestry for Frances Tutt aged 30 - a Female Servant in the same household. Her name looks straightforward for transcribers.
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.
