Foxhall Road Ipswich
« on: Wednesday 18 October 17 17:26 BST (UK) »
I wonder if anyone can tell me what sort of place 529 Foxhall Road was in 1936?  It is where a relative died but I do not recognise the name of the informant.  I wonder was it a nursing home or other medical place as this person was in her 80's.  It is now a modern flat development.

This person lived in London and Kent until her late 70's so I am trying to find a connection to Ipswich.

Thank you for that Rosie.  I will follow up.  I know it was a practice with workhouse addresses to put a road number instead of institution to camouflage the information.  But hardly in 1936?  She died of a stroke and the duration of her illness is not stated.  As an elderly widow living in Wandsworth, I wonder if there was an arrangement to relocate invalids to distant institutions?  I can see no connection to Suffolk in her history. I had hoped to find a family member that cared for her in her last days/years.  This lady had had 11 children but only 4 survived by 1911.

Who was the informant.

In the case of workhouses they were still being used as hospitals when the NHS started in 1948.

Informant was "G E Morriss" with no more information save 'present at death'.  I had hope that she was with a married daughter but name does not relate and usually the relationship is stated.  I will chase up the 1939 register to see if it was a private  house at that time.  Googlemaps shows St Clements Hospital a bit further along the same road and on opposite side.

According to the 1951 map at https://www.old-maps.co.uk/index.html#/Map/619069/244091/13/101329 529 was a semidetached house.

Thank you both   .... pleased to have rescued her from mental institution.  Perhaps it was a sister on more likely a niece as my lady was born in 1852?  I will chase up that line...
