HUMPHRIES, Richard bap. 4 Nov 1827 Brackley, Northamptonshire
« on: Thursday 19 October 17 06:18 BST (UK) »
Hi there from Down Under
Looking for an actual PR of the birth and or baptism of Richard HUMPHRIES bap. 04 November 1827 Brackley, Northamptonshire.

FindMyPast England, Births & Baptisms 1538-1975 Transcription is just of the baptism and does not show dob or maiden name of mother.

If anyone with local knowledge can help/advise re accessing a PR that might show dob and name of mother that would be wonderful :-)

(We do have name of mother (Louisa SALMON) as we have the PR of the Marriage which took place in Wellsbourn, Warwickshire on 27 September 1827.)

But it would be great to have the actual PR record if possible.

Thanks in advance.

Baptisms do not generally give mothers maiden name or date of birth of child.  The record on F M P has been extracted from familysearch database

Hello,
Rosie is quite right - mother's maiden name is not given on baptismal records

This baptism reads
1827   4 Nov   Richard s James & Louisa Humphreys   of St Peter's   Labourer  born Oct 30th 1827

There were two parishes in Brackley, St James and St Peter's, but only one set of registers, covering both.

Hi Rosie99 and PrawnCocktail
(funny - but I had lunch today with the friend I posted this query for and would you believe - she had Prawn Cocktail..)  :-)

Thank you both and I can see from the 2nd post you have given me the dob which is great.

Is there any way my friend would be able to acquire a copy of this PR...?

btw I have seen some Baptism PR's that show both parents plus occupation of father, with baptism date on the far left and dob in the far right column - different counties, different eras I guess.

Your time in checking this is much appreciated.

Barbara

It's my favourite ....  ;D

It's on Anc***.co.uk - wait until the next free weekend, and search in the Northants Baptisms 1813 - 1912. Or if she's never tried Ancestry, she may be able to get a free trial.

The baptism image is on Ancestry under the surname Humphreys.
The columns are headed
When Baptised
Childs christian name
Parents Name -Christian/Surname
Abode
Quality, Trade or Profession
By whom the ceremony was performed
This is a standard form used by the C of E after c1813 I believe.

Some clergy add the date of birth in the column designated for 'When baptised' as this one has.  You can sometimes find both surnames but often when the parents are not married.  Additional information added by the clergy is at their discretion.

That is great to hear - I have had ances.... for years but don't have it at present as it's SO expensive, but I'll let her know and she will find a way to check.
Once again to both of you - many, many thanks :-)
