Duncan and Jean do look to have had a daughter Mary, with a birth year in the range of Neil (reputed father). 1861 below:

Duncan Mcgilvray 40 tailor b. Kilfinichen, argyleshire
Jane Mcgilvray 36 b. Kilfinichen, argyleshire
John Mcgilvray 14
Mary Mcgilvray 12 Kilfinichen, argyleshire
Hugh Mcgilvray 4
Catherine Mcgilvray 8

Address: Torranbey, Kilfinichen and Kilvickeon

Can't easily find young Mary and mother in 1891. Guessing Mary Snr married and daughter Mary show under that family group with a different surname? Mary Snr could also be deceased given the detail we have on Mary Jnr.'s marriage reg. By 1901 Mary Jnr married and sure you have it all from there.

I have just  letter from a cousin, saying:-

Neil McGillivray        D.193?

There is a death for a Neil McGilvray, aged 78 in the Calton area of Glasgow in 1930 that you could check on SP. Also a possible marriage for a Neil McGilvray to a Sarah Campbell in the Kelvin area of Glasgow in 1885.

There is a 60 yr old Neil McGilvray on the 1911 census. Entry shows in Morvern. I think just from the main index entries that there may also be in the household: Neil 25, Archibald 20, Katie 18.

There is a death in the Milton area of Glasgow in 1879 (and where possibly Mary Jnr was born in 1879) for a Mary McGilvray, aged 29. Could fit for Mary Snr from what we have.

I have sent a PM to jennyrob on this matter.  Neil MacGillivray and Mary (McCormick) were my hubby's great-grandparents, so we have quite a bit of information on the family - I am afraid that most people's research was in vain.  I've not been on the site for a couple of weeks so I didn't see this earlier - sorry!

How very rude of you  >:(    To dismiss and criticize volunteer's efforts after they spent many hours over a few days looking at the records, buying credits trying to count or discount possibilities on this mystery.

Perhaps you could have worded your reply in a more polite manner.

I am sorry if I seemed to be rude...it was certainly not meant to be so.  I am well aware of how helpful Chatters are - and, indeed, I try to be so myself.  So, for those that are insulted, I apologise.
