Journeyman Miller?
« on: Thursday 19 October 17 20:55 BST (UK) »
Hi
I hope this is the correct board.
In my friends family, her 3x great grandfather was a labourer in 1818 in 1841 he was a journeyman Miller. Is this conceivable or have we made a mistake and picked up the wrong line?
Regards
Brian

What record is that states he is a ag, lab, in 1818. It is possible that they put ag, lab. for miller, it is a agricultural occupation.

Assistant in a corn mill, a two man job, often one of the family.

Thanks for the replies.
It was on a parish record for the birth of his son.

Difficult, has a journeyman he would have finished an apprenticeship and would be employed has a miller. Unless he had a spell doing something else. It is not inconcievable that he was marked as ag, lab. although a tradesman. Best to look for more proof if possible. If you posted his name and the place here I am sure that some of the experts here would be able to find more about him.
