If this is the right family, and I have no reason to think it isn’t, it is terribly sad. After the parents deaths the children are in a Scottish orphanage. Of the five children two die as babies, and the two boys are sent to Canada many years apart and to different places. I suspect they had no contact. And Mary goes to NZ and has the misfortune to get mixed up with Percy.
