Mary Apsey and Richard Bibbens Stephens. (his death is the problem).
« on: Saturday 21 October 17 13:28 BST (UK) »
My 1st cousin 4x removed was a Mary Apsey - born  06 MAY 1801 • Christchurch, Hants. She married a Richard Bibbens Stephens - (born 17 SEPT 1797 • East Teignmouth, Devon) on 31 Jan 1827, West Parley, Near to Ferndown -Canford Magna, East Dorset.

We have seen another entry for the same marriage in London.

I have been informed that Richard Bibbens Stephens died in 1828 apparently lost at sea. This is the conundrum - unable to find anything about his death or confirm if he did die at sea..any help about his death, would be appreciated. Whatever happened to Mary, one has no idea.

They had a son, William born in 1827 and who has been found in the 1851 census as a lodger in Basingstoke..
Apsey, Milner.

Do you have this from British Mariners, Trinity House Calendars 1787-1854, which at least proves he was a sailor?

EDIT Are you certain it was the marriage that appears twice once in Dorset & and again in London, as I can see a birth of a Mary Apsey 6th May 1801 Baptist Wimborne Minster Father George Mother Joanna that also is shown same date in London?

My apologies for not thanking you sooner, but it was later than expected, when I read your reply.
My cousins and I thank you very much - it all ties in with other information we have..Having a son with the same christian name as his father, makes research confusing...

Emma Apsey was Mary's niece, daughter of Mary's brother John. Richard (Jnr)..I gather was born in Portsea.

Richard Bibbens Stephens was involved in the Salted Cod Trade between Newfoundland, Canada and Poole, Dorset..

My mistake, I saw 2 entries for Mary Apsey same dates and with my memory, got her birth and marriage dates mixed up...our Mary was born on the Hampshire and Dorset borders (these days the area is all in Dorset)...as  were her brothers John and George.
Apsey, Milner.
