Thomas Davies - The Western Mail 11 Nov 1889
« on: Sunday 22 October 17 12:58 BST (UK) »
Hello

Wondering if someone with access to Newspaper Archives can help.

Found reference to the attached picture "Thomas Davies - The Western Mail 11 Nov 1889" who maybe a great, great uncle, but without the picture being in context and with associated text can't say (although without the mustache and beard my wife says there is a family resemblance!)

in 1881 he was a Master Carpenter living in Pryce Street, Llanwonno, Mountain Ash and in 1891 is listed as a Builder of 65 Dyffryn Street, Llanwonno, Mountain Ash.

Thank you

Thanks for this link and the other feedback, much appreciated.

Thomas was described as a cabinet maker, builder, carpenter and undertaker (1901) in the censuses. By luck, more than skill, I have managed to find 3 references to him, including amazingly his obituary (see attached). I am sure there are more newspaper articles on him if I knew how to search better!

Noticed his funeral says for men only, which to me is unusual, has anyone got any thoughts/insights into that?

Have found a second obituary for Thomas in 1906 in which it mentions his 9 children. One of which Frederick (Fred) William Davies, born 1874, mountain ash is living in Scranton, America. Searching passenger lists come up with with 4 or 5 possible matches but I don't have access to see if they may be "my" F. W. Davies. Does anyone who does have access able to confirm if one or more of these entries might be him
