Academy at Letham  :-\....

I did a lot of wandering as a child (curious genes) so it's quite possible I did see a Canon/Canons somewhere but it's a very vague memory only coming to light when you mentioned it & I still can't be sure where although I can see it in the back of my mind!

I will enquire as I have relatives who live in Hillyland & I think went to PA?

The original Academy was in South Street (opposite where Princes Street joins South Street).
In the early 19th century the Seminaries in Rose Terrace were built and became the Academy.
In 1932 the new Academy in Burghmuir opened it's doors and the old  Academy became offices.

The Academy in Rose Terrace is a Grade A listed building.
I found this;
For many years, a pair of Crimean War cannons stood outside the Academy, until their removal for scrap metal in 1940.

I'm auld but no that auld.
I must have seen photographs of the cannon  :D

I thought Pitfour was an estate near St Madoes betwixt Perth & Dundee.
The Richardson's of Pitfour owned a lot of fishing rights on the river Tay.
That link says it's in Aberdeenshire
There are (at least) two Pitfours.

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Thanks Forfarian, that explains the two Pitfours.

This is a photo of the Rose Terrace cannons being removed for the war effort.
The Perthshire Advertiser, 7th September, 1940, reported that:
The two Crimean cannons, which have stood at the front of the old Academy buildings
at the North Inch for years and were popular among generations of Perth children as
something upon which to climb, were removed this week as scrap.
