Thomas Horn Isabel Wilkie fife scotland
« on: Sunday 22 October 17 23:14 BST (UK) »
I'm researching Thomas Horn c1710 .He married an Isabel wilkie in 1734 scoonie Fife. They had 10 children all baptized scoonie fife.  I'm trying to find any birth for Thomas Horn his marriage reveals nothing only parish of Scoonie.  I have access to Ancestry records and have found a record of a Thomas born 1706 in Kennoway, fife which is the next town which lists father as Andrew mother as Barbara. Any help on finding information on Thomas appreciated.

Do the witnesses to the baptisms help? Are any of them Horns or Wilkies? Although it was not always used, is there any sign of the "traditional naming pattern" in operation?

Hi There are no witnesses.  As for traditional naming they are common names at that time. Ive found 4 children to Andrew and Barbara Gill then a dead end too.

Just wondering if you viewed the actual record or just the transcription?

The transcription will not give you any 'Sponsors' names only the original if they were recorded.

Most marriages for that era contain very little info.

From GR2
"Do the witnesses to the baptisms help? Are any of them Horns or Wilkies? Although it was not always used, is there any sign of the "traditional naming pattern" in operation?"

What were the names of the 10 children in order please?

"There are no witnesses"

Is it correct there were no Sponsors to any of those 10 Baptisms?

"As for traditional naming they are common names at that time"

This would have applied to the whole of Scotland but most people are able to deduce possible parents from the names of children in order of birth & possible siblings from sponsors on baptisms.
