Looking for baptism of Elizabeth Addey (wife of Matthew Wood)
« on: Monday 23 October 17 11:17 BST (UK) »
Hannah Wood was baptised on 1st Dec 1833 at Felkirk d/o Matthew and Elizabeth. She has a number of siblings, the earliest is Henry bapt 28 Apr 1822 and the latest is Sarah born 22 Feb 1845.
The only marriage I can find that fits is Matthew Wood to Elizabeth Addey on 14 Apr 1822 at Felkirk (very close to Henry's baptism).
On 1851 - 1871 censuses, Elizabeth is consistently b abt 1801 in Pontefract. In 1881 she is still b Pontefract but abt 1802. In 1881 she is living with daughter Hannah and her husband William (Depledge) Blackburn, so William would have filled in census form. In 1881 she is recorded as Betsy and there is a burial for a Betsy Wood on 28 Sep 1887 at Felkirk age 88, age a bit out. This Betsy's abode is Dewsbury. The Blackburns moved about a bit, in 1881 they were at Crigglestone and in 1891 in Batley (in Dewsbury reg district) so could be her.
Can anyone please find a baptism for an Elizabeth Addey (or variants) in Pontefract around 1801?

Thank you for that - a very good match. Betsy seems to be the only daughter born to this couple in Pontefract. Now to find Peter and Sarah's marriage and any connection to Felkirk
Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge
Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt

Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott

The only marriage I can find which fits the timescale is

Peter Addy/Sarah Wilson Hull St Mary Lowgate 24 dec 1798 by Banns. Witnesses Thomas Clay, Leonard Stephenson.

There a couple who baptised two children in Felkirk - William and Jane Addy.
