Hi, many thanks for the continued input to the thread, it is greatly appreciated.

Thank you MaxD for the Scottish Command Troops.

John915, thank you for the idea of Williams B i L, that hadn't occurred to me  ::) several photographs that I have all feature the family of Williams wife, she was Freda Crowcroft prior to marriage.

Good morning  :)

After continually searching around and also looking on a Facebook group I am a member of, I think I have an answer, I think what we can see is a part of the formation patch for the "9th Armoured Division" this seems to have been a unit for training or experimenting with specialised armour, this would also tie in with the fact that William used to talk of training men and "Special" work he did.

What do you think?

Frank.

Not beyond the bounds of possibility - pic attached. Now need a unit within the division that wore a left arm lanyard and no cloth upper arm regimental title.  None found so far!

I am Zoe Northeast, granddaughter of Maximilian Double.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

Hi MaxD, Thanks for the reply, I'm going to look at his service record later, (Grandad duties at the moment) and see if it holds any clues, William, (Major William Pearson Kitchen at his death) was always sketchy when talking about his career, he used to start talking about things then say "Oh, I can't tell you any more" and give a wink, I remember he always said he taught people at one time or another during his career in the Army and even said after the war he was involved in "Stuff" he couldn't talk about.

Best regards always
Frank.
