Hi everyone. Could someone tell me what the ‘Y’ is on this army Cheshire Regiment uniform. Sorry not very clear

5th Infantry Division. 7th Battalion Cheshire Regiment were with them from 1941.

Thanks for the reply . It could be that the Y is for a Yorkshire connection ‘Northern Command based at York although this may not be the reason for it

Later in the war, units within a Division wore the Divisional sign on their epaulettes.
