seek a marriage in (Vaud?) Switzerland
« on: Tuesday 24 October 17 02:11 BST (UK) »
(do they have online resources like ancestry / findmypast or freebmd sites ?)

seek marriage details of:

Benjamin Oscar HOFFER (1905 - 1988)
to
Savina Cathérine PERRAZZI (1908  - 1986)
(dates from headstones)

any help or suggestions welcome, as researching on behalf of a British descendant!

(This is out of my comfort zone!)  :-\

Hello,
Why the question mark after Vaud?
Where are the  tumbs ?
Don’t you have any other details?

There is a Swiss Board which you can post a query on (in English):

http://kunden.eye.ch/swissgen/forum/index.html

However I think Swiss law restricts access to information more recent than 1876. But you should enquire as I may not have got that totally correct.

As you are 'out of your comfort zone', then read other pages on the website (http://kunden.eye.ch/swissgen/schweiz-en.html) which give a guide to researching Swiss genealogy.
Forum member Svenja might correct me, but I don't recall Vaud having any online records other than Familysearch, but in any case never that recent.
The forum Elwyn mentions is very good. Also look at the the website of the local family history society http://www.ancetres.ch

However you will need a 'place of origin' far more exact than 'Vaud?' to proceed. I would suggest Donatyre VD might be that place, as it is the 'place of origin' for Hoffer in VD. The descendant would be able to write to the civil registry to ask for details.

Also, the first website I mentioned above explains how Swiss civil records are organised and I recommend you read that bit to understand how to go about an enquiry.

The UK is very lucky/spoilt with how much is online, and to very recently as well. Other countries just don't do it that way!

I've now had a moment to look at this further. The civil registry for Donatyre is in Yverdon-les-Bains. go to www.vd.ch and search/look for 'Office de l'état civil du Nord vaudois'.  Once on the page, on the right is their e-mail.
The descendant can then write to ask if they have the record, and if they do, how they can obtain it.  They may ask for CHF30, plus some evidence of relationship.

Good luck, and let us know how you get on.
