Trying to find outcome of a High Court Case circa May 16/17 1945
« on: Wednesday 25 October 17 13:52 BST (UK) »
I have a cutting from the Irish Press for May 16 1945 about the case of an amusements caterer, who said his mother had left him the key to a safe which held considerable cash and jewels although she had not said so in her Will. He had not benefitted from the Will and brought this challenge about 5 years after the death of his mother. His challenge was being opposed by his brother, who had benefitted from the Will. The defence suggested he'd been sent the key for safe custody and that there was no valid gift in law. The hearing was adjourned until May 16/17.  I don't know the outcome of the case and wish to find out. Is there any archive (especially a free one) where I might find out this information?
Thanks for reading this.

Do you have a name, or location for the people involved?   I will look up the newspaper archive for you

The name was William Piper who lived in Cork. The case was heard in the High court in Dublin May 1945 - outcome was due to be given on 16 or 17th May.
Mr. Piper had said his mother had sent him the key to a safe which he was to open after her death. He was not mentioned in her will but thought she had remembered him this way. He said the safe had been removed. It was suggested that the mother had sent him the key only for safe-keeping.  I think the outcome of the case will be that he gets nothing from the situation, but I would like to know how the Press reported it, if possible.
Thank you so much for your very kind offer.

Just one mention in the Irish Times 17 May 1945 Judge made a reserved Judgement and no mention when searching to Dec 1946.
