McNulty Dobbin Marriage 1870
« on: Wednesday 25 October 17 16:23 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I am looking for the Marriage between John Kinolty (Or McNulty/McAnulty) and Mary Dobbin (Or Daubins), the children were born in the early 1870's - Margaret, Patrick, Peter and James (My great Granda).

I am trying to find details of the parents and siblings of Mary Dobbin and John Kinolty

Both John and Mary have died by 1901 (Mary in 1879 and John in 1898) and the family are in the census in Burrenreagh, Bryansford.

The daughter Margaret (Aged 30) is a widow at this stay, with a 9 year old daughter - Rose Ann McCabe.

Any help gratefully received, the missing parents, are the only my only missing GGG Grandparents on my Dad's side!

Yes for Patrick (Joseph) in 1870 and James in 1872, but earlier for Margaret (baptised 1865) and Peter (baptised 1867) and earlier still for several other children baptised well before this: Mary 1851, Brigid 1853, John 1855, Elizabeth 1857, Margaret Ann 1859, and Ann 1860. Can't find a marriage for John and Mary.

Hi, where are you finding the information on the other children? I can't find a record of the Bridget and the others being born to Mary and John

I have conflicting birth dates compared to the census. I will have to back to parish registers!

The age variance in the census wouldn't greatly concern me, it is pretty well par for the course for this context, whereby many simply didn't celebrate birthdays or otherwise have an accurate awareness of age.

Here are the civil birth registrations for the folk in the 1901 census return:
- Margaret Kinolty, 1865:

- Peter Kinolty, 1867:

- Patrick Joseph Kinolty, 1870:

- James Kinolty, 1872:

Hi, where are you finding the information on the other children? ...

The other children I mentioned predate civil birth registration, here are their baptisms (note the odd Kinolty or Dobbin sponsor in the following):

- Mary Kinulty, baptised 1 July 1851, Kilcoo RC parish (right page, 6th entry down from top):

- Brigid Kinolty, baptised 28 September 1853, Bryansford and Newcastle RC parish (left page, 19th line down from top):
https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000633130#page/8/mode/1up
- John Kinolty, baptised 3 August 1855, Bryansford and Newcastle RC parish (right page, 2nd entry up from bottom):
https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000633130#page/8/mode/1up
- Eliza Kinolty, baptised 6 August 1857, Bryansford and Newcastle RC parish (right page, 6th line up from bottom):
https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000633130#page/9/mode/1up
- Margaret Ann Kinolty, baptised 9 May 1859, Bryansford and Newcastle RC parish (right page, 11th line up from bottom):
https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000633130#page/10/mode/1up
- Ann Kinolty, baptised 5 November 1860, Bryansford and Newcastle RC parish (right page, 9th line down from top):

The age variance in the census wouldn't greatly concern me, it is pretty well par for the course for this context, whereby many simply didn't celebrate birthdays or otherwise have an accurate awareness of age.

- Patrick Joseph Kinolty, 1870:
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1870/03339/2223832.pdf
- James Kinolty, 1872:
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1872/03227/2182922.pdf

Here is the baptism for Margaret Kenolty, born on 19 March 1865 according to her civil registration of 19 April 1865, but baptised on 16 March 1865 according to the Bryansford and Newcastle RC parish register (right page, 7th line down from top) - a phenomenon which isn't that uncommon in Irish records:
https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000633130#page/13/mode/1up

Peter Kinolty, who was born on 14 November 1867 according to his civil registration of 14 December 1867 (do you see the pattern?), was baptised on 21 August 1867 according to the Bryansford and Newcastle RC parish register (right page, 17th line down from top):
https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000633130#page/14/mode/1up

Patrick Joseph Kinolty, who was born on 10 June 1870 according to his civil registration of 10 August 1870, was baptised on 7 February 1870 according to the Bryansford and Newcastle RC parish register (right page, 12th line up from bottom):
https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000633130#page/15/mode/1up

James Kinolty, who was born on 25 September 1872 according to his civil registration of 19 October 1872, was baptised on 13 September 1872 according to the Bryansford and Newcastle RC parish register (left page, 18th line down from top):
https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000633130#page/17/mode/1up

As I said, the variance between civil birth and baptismal records here (especially the exact period of 1 or 2 months between birth and registration in the first three examples above) is not that uncommon.

Thanks for all that! It's brilliant, having details of all the other siblings might help me piece together the various Mcanultys in the area!

Marriages might also help in the task, 'RootsIreland' lists an 1870 marriage for a Mary Kenolty (with an address of Burrenreagh and a father called John, a farmer) to James Rice, just a possibility, also an 1874 marriage for a Bridget Kinolty (same address and father) to John Grant, the 'irishgenealogy' website will make these available to view in the fullness of time.  There are also these possibilities:

- Elizabeth Conalty to James Flanagan in 1891:

- James McNulty to Bridget O'Higgins in 1908:
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1908/10040/5652175.pdf
- Patrick McNulty to Mary Anne Rooney in 1911:

A John Kenulty married 'Dobbin' (no forename) in Kilcoo RC parish on 26 November 1849, witnessed by Patrick Kenulty and Margaret Grant, there is no other information (pretty normal for the era), it sounds very like them given where and when daughter Mary was baptised, NLI hasn't imaged this online.
