Samuel William Davies 1881 Census
« on: Wednesday 25 October 17 18:34 BST (UK) »
I have another missing Person, this time in the 1881 Census. My GG Grandfather Samuel William Davies. Here is what I know...

Born around 1877 Newton, Cheshire. (dont have an exact date, censuses all point to this date).

Parents believed to be John Davies (Flintshire) and Elizabeth J Newat (Birkenhead).

1891 Census Shows him as a Blacksmiths assistant, living on Astley Street, Dukinfield.

Marries Esther Sanderson, 1896, Ashton under Lyne.

1901 Census, He's a Brushmakers Carter living on Boodle Street, Ashton Under Lyne.

1911 Census, A Carriers Carter, No 11 Littlemoor Lane, Oldham.

Death Possibly 1947, Oldham.

Hopefully thats enough to go on, Thanks...

Hi Pauline, alas I cannot, I've never found any evidence of a wedding taking place. The only mention I have of Samuels parents are from an 1891 census. John Davies and Elizabeth Davies are living with (amongst others) John's step daughter Emma Newat. The middle J initial comes from the 1901 census.

It's not impossible, if they got the names the wrong way round. There are a couple of candidates ive seen on the free bmd search, a year either side of 1877, theres just no way to prove which one (if any) he is.

I did find an Elizabeth J Newat which must be her. It was in an 1871 census in Nantwich, said she was a school mistress from St Ives. Later censuses have her birthplace in Birkenhead. Newat also appears to be an incredibly rare surname, so much so that I wonder if its a mistranscription?

This is a branch of the tree that I've taken rather a long break from so am just retracing my steps atm.
