George & Ellen Johnston and Family 1881 onwards
« on: Wednesday 25 October 17 19:28 BST (UK) »
I seem to have lost George & Ellen and their family from 1881, although I think I have found the two boys William and George living around the Hull area as adults, its George & Ellen that I am primarily interested in and any other kids

George was born around 1835 in Lancashire (no place currently found); Ellen was born in Liverpool in 1840.

They married on 16 September 1861 at St Thomas, Toxteth, Liverpool and I can find the following children (there could be some older children that didn't survive):

William, born around 1866 in Liverpool
George, born around 1869 in St Helens, Lancashire
Jonathan, born around 1870 in Hull, Yorkshire (he dies at the age of 1).

By the time the 1871 Census rolls around they are found in Hull with the 3 boys.  George Snr is working as a Ship Yard Labourer and after that, apart from baby Jonathan's death shortly after the 1871 Census, I lose them.

The reference for 1871 is Class: RG10; Piece: 4780; Folio: 21; Page: 36

Thanks
Ruth

3 boys to look for in 1881 but not finding any of them  :-\

Would help to know if parents had died by 1881 but not finding any likely deaths either *

* having said that there is an Ellen Johnson death registration Sculcoates Sep 1876 age 34

Quite a lot of George Johnson deaths but Mar 1874 age 40 same district

Quote
George was born around 1835 in Lancashire (no place currently found);

His father is Jonathan per the marriage so

1851

Jonathan Johnston 47
Betty 48
William 18
George 17 born Middleton
Robert 13
Jonathan 9
Joseph 5

certainly a possible seeing that George used most of those names for his sons

1881 Southcoates Yorkshire, at 1 Craven Street
William Johnston age 14 apprentice tailor, boarder with
John Ward 32 master tailor and his wife Catherine.

It says he was born Hull but its just ditto marks as he is listed last after the children of John and Catherine Ward.

So that's one located in 1881 well found.  Occupation fits with William 24 in 1891 being a tailor.

George is a shoe maker and Robert a stone masons apprentice in 1891.

Quite interested in the 15 month old boarder from Sydney but that's probably another story!
