The family on 1851 (and 1841) census at St. Helen, Ipswich is definitely them.

However, I don't think any of the 'possible' marriages quoted here are them.

According to 1851 census Mary Ann is shown to be bc.1785 Rushmere plus baptisms of the 2 daughters also give her as Mary Ann.

She may well have been a Fulcher but I don't personally think the marriage of James Ribbans and Mary Ann/e 'whoever' is available online (at the moment anyway).

Hi LizzieL & Annette7,

Oh dear! - I'm embarrassed to say I had completely forgotten about my post of 2016.

My problem is that there are too many Ribbans/Ribbons around including those called James.

I always thought the "Ribbans" clan were from Suffolk only but in recent times I have found dozens with the same name in Norfolk (Drayton, Norwich,) & London & Surrey. It is because of this that I thought I would try and find a common link between the Suffolk & Norfolk families. So far it's eluded me.

I might contact the SFHS to see if they can do a check for me.

Thank you all for help.

Hi all,

Just to update;
I contacted the SFHS who kindly did a search for me and reported back saying they "have not found any marriage for a James R to Mary Ann Fulcher in our records and can only assume if they married it was not in Suffolk."

As a result I will disregard the "Fulcher" marriage and see if I can link Ann Chisnell (from Ipswich St.Clements) to my James. I know there is a marriage in 1817 but will see if her name was also "Mary Ann" and not just Ann.
