McPherson Family 1900, Bainsford, Grahamston area
« on: Thursday 26 October 17 19:50 BST (UK) »
Im looking into my Mum's side of the family and have a lot of connections from the Falkirk area.

So far I have:
David McPherson (1862 - Unknown) but i know he survived WW1
married in 1888
Helen {Unknown} (1867 - Unknown)

They had 4 children to my knowledge:
Alexander McPherson (1890 - 1916 KIA)
James McPherson (1891 - 1917 KIA)
David McPherson (1897 - Unknown)
Helen McPherson (1899 - Unknown)

When David (1862) joined the Military (1914) they were living at:
9 Mill Court, Grahamston, Falkirk.

His son Alexander is my Mums Great Grandad. Alexander married Agnes Liddle (Possible Naismith) in Glasgow in 1910.
They lived at Lock 5, Bainsford. After he was killed in 1916 she moved to 112  Main Street, Bainsford.

There seems to be very little information other than what is here, and I certainly can't seem to trace back any further,

Any help, photos, description of the local area would be great. Thank you

Hi there

Can't see a marriage in 1888 for them on SP  :-\ Why not look up the birth cert of Alexander's birth in 1890 as this will give you Helen's maiden name and details of the marriage (date and place).

The 1891 transcript I am looking at has mistranscribed Helen's name:

David McPherson 29 iron moulder b. Hunghead, Stirlingshire
William McPherson 24 wife b. Stenhousemuir, Stirlingshire
Alex McPherson 1 b. Falkirk
Thomas Miller 21 - relationship to head shows as Bi. Could it be brother in law, brother to Helen?
Peter Miller 15 as above both Thomas and Peter show as born in Stonehousemuir.

Address: 25 East Bridge St, Falkirk

Froom the possible brother in laws ref from the 1891 census, there is this Miller family that could fit for Helen in the 1881 census:

James Miller 45 iron moulder
Mary Miller 40
Helen Miller 14 Possible birth https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FQ4H-THB
Thomas Miller 12 https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:F738-CJX
Mary Miller 9 https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FQZN-5ZX
Agnes Miller 7 https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FQZJ-MP8
Peter Miller 5
Isabella Miller 3
Jemima Miller 1

Address: North Road, Larbert

You need to verify key records on SP to work back with confidence now I would suggest...

If there is no marriage record to be found for Helen and David, I think this might be her death:

Helen Miller McPherson died in Falkirk in 1937 aged 39.

All these certs can be viewed online on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

This is from David's Military records of 1914. Helen is mentioned on it, but so are two further children. Hard to find the 1911 census.

The Miller brothers look very possible as Brother Inlaws

I couldn't transcribe her name on his records, I thought it might have been 'Millan' or 'william'

I can see now where you got the date of 1888 for the marriage. Struggle to find it on SP. From David's enlistment papers, wife Helen is showing as Helen Millar I would say, which fits with what else we are seeing.

Got to rush to pick up my daughter, back shortly!

Re the 1911, just from general searches, there is I think a family in the same household in Falkirk with the ref 479/ 16/ 33

David 49
Alexander 21
James 18
David 14
Helen 12
Janet 9
Archie 3

Can't easily see Helen, wife, nor daughter Jane b. 1908 on the index with that ref.

You do need to view the original image to get the detail.
