Copies of Hampshire Parish Records
« on: Friday 27 October 17 11:38 BST (UK) »
Thanks to Roots Chat (Cidardrinker) I have been able to confirm a marriage in St Marys, Portsea.  I would now like to obtain either an electronic or hard copy of the event.  I have been on the Hampshire Archive website but can't see anywhere to request copies or even leave a query.  Can anyone help me as I do not live local to this area.  Many thanks.

Do you have access to FindMyPast?  They have just released records (images and transcriptions) of some Portsmouth Registers.

Your local library might offer access to FindMyPast.

Yes I have a subscription with Find My Past but this parish record is not one that has an image - only transcription.  To confirm other family trees had the right marriage I needed more information than the transcription gives i.e. witness names, occupations, father names and occupations.  I am happy that it is the right record but like a copy for my own records.

Is this the William Dowling marriage that Ciderdrinker helped you with ? If so there is an image on FindMyPast.
Incidentally . for copies of records from Hampshire Archives go to the home page here:
http://www3.hants.gov.uk/archives - then select " Getting copies" from the column on the left.

Hi Guys
Find My Past does NOW have a copy of the Parish Record.  It just goes to show it pays to recheck records regularly.

The image is available on FindMyPast!!  I just looked - via Search, Parish Marriages - and entered William Dowling and 1837.  There were 3 hits for Portsea, one of them with the image.  ;D ;D
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

I accessed some Hampshire records at a LDS Family History Centre very recently.  Great that these are now at FindMyPast.
