from an article in the Wiltshire times Jan 1879
« on: Saturday 28 October 17 14:33 BST (UK) »
I have found this information from an article in the

Wiltshire Times and Trowbridge Advertiser 04 January 1879

Seend Cleeve School

On Thursday 26 Dec 1878 (Boxing Day) the children attending this school were awarded money prizes. Ellen Nash received the largest amount, viz., for writing 2s, for attendance 2s, 1st prize for needlework 2s 6d, Scholarship 1s, total, 7s 6d.

I have an ancestor Ellen Nash born 9 Oct 1864 in the Workhouse Seend and am thinking that the person mentioned here would be my ancestor?

Any comments welcome. :)

7s.6d was a lot of money in 1878, £1 then is equivalent to about £107 today and that would buy a lot of things in 1878.  I'm sure her family must have been delighted with that "windfall".
