John James Pope served in the 1st AIF during WW1.

He enlisted at 19 years and 11 months on 31st August 1917 in Brisbane.  His next of kin was his father, T Pope of Woondum, Gympie.

26th reinforcements, 15th Battalion and served in France late in the war.

I have just stumbled on this thread via Thomas Pope Laura Maria/Maude Weller's daugther Ethel May/Mary Pope. I was looking for a wife for her husband and ended with going down this rather large rabbit-hole.
I note that this thread is getting old, but if anyone is still interested I know facts about Ethel that don't seem to have come up yet.
