Helen Hilton - where did she go?
« on: Sunday 29 October 17 09:40 GMT (UK) »
Helen was the daughter of John Hilton (1774- 1828) and Ann (nee Fleet) (1791 - 1826) who married at St Peter's, Liverpool in 1815.  She already had in illegitimate son James who was born in 1811 (no idea who his father is).

The family at some point converted to Catholicism (or John was already Catholic - I have no idea)

Helen was born on 3 March 1820 and baptised at St Anthony's (RC) on 5 March 1820.    She is down as Helen but equally she could turn up as Ellen.

Helen's mother died in 1826 and father died in 1828, but whilst I have found as much as I can about her half -brother and what happened to him, I cannot find anything about Helen, particularly as if she did live she was orphaned very young.   Helen is not with James in 1841 or 61 (lost him in 51) before he dies in 1863

Any pointers on Helen would be gratefully received  :)

Thank you

There is a Thomas Hilton baptised Blackburn 2 Feb 1840 parents Thomas and Ellen.

Maybe this Ellen was a Leaver who married a Hilton.

Birth registration for Thomas Mar 1840 Blackburn does have MMN Leaver.

Marriage 10 Aug 1837 so don't think she is your missing Helen  :(

There's a Helen here in 1841 Leyland Lancashire just in case she is a niece or some other relative not a daughter.  Do you know if her father had a brother Henry?

The family at some point converted to Catholicism (or John was already Catholic - I have no idea)

As was customary for RC marriages, as the state did not at that time consider a couple married if they were not married in the CofE the couple 'married' twice to satisfy both state and religeon

John was presumably RC as they married in St Peter's Priory (RC) - Seel St - on 8th January 1815 and again (church not stated on A*try) in Liverpool on 9th January 1815.

edit 9th January St Peter's, Church St (Cof E)
