Barrow on Trent PRs
« on: Sunday 29 October 17 14:35 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone have access to Barrow on Trent PRs, please?

From census records I have:

John Bucknall, b. Barrow on Trent, abt 1806
and his wife
Sarah Bancroft, b. Barrow on Trent, abt 1817.

I have them together from their marriage at St Werburgh's, Derby in 1836, until John's death in 1885, and Sarah's in 1900.

Ancestry has a baptism (transcription only) of a baptism at Barrow on 18 Aug 1816 of a Sarah Bancroft, d/o Elizabeth, which helps me get back another generation, but I can't find anything for John Bucknall and wondered if anyone could help me, please?

Thanks

I've seen that, but am not convinced it's the correct one somehow.  From census records, John's early occupation is a butcher and then farmer with hired labourers.  Later on one of his sons becomes a butcher in Barrow, so I'm thinking that they're "Barrow folks".

Edited to say : Have just looked through the 1841 census for Barrow and can't see any other Bucknalls than those in John's household, so maybe they're not Barrow folk after all.  Just confused myself now  ???

Have you considered visiting the Local Studies and Family History Library in Derby (I see that you live in Derby)?  :-\

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

I'm not a stranger to the Derby Local Studies Library, but having reviewed their list of holdings, I can't see Barrow baptisms from the early 1800s on their listings.  They have all the Derby PRs, but only a very few for those of the rest of the county, although they do have a few transcriptions on CD even if I can't see they hold the one for Barrow.

Glad to hear it  :)

Very strange that Ancestry seem to have a large gap in the parish records for Barrow on Trent.  I see that there are no baptisms between 1812 and 1852.  However, I see from the list of holdings at Lichfield that they have the BT's for Barrow on Trent, with apparently no gaps.

When I looked through the 1841 census for the village there are quite a few Bancrofts!  Could take a while to untangle them all  ::)
