There's a will for a Sarah Cole, widow, living at 206 Whitechapel Road, Middlesex.  She leaves everything to son Charles.  Is this George's widow?  Look for the year 1861 on the website www.probatesearch.service.gov.uk

Thank you, I'll have a look now.

St George Middlesex would tend to suggest St George Bloomsbury or St George in the East, rather than St George the Martyr (which was Surrey rather than Middlesex).

There was (and remains) a St George the Martyr on Queen Square in Holborn.

Thank you Horselydown86, very grateful for your input.

Steviesteve - would you be going to the LMA anytime soon?  And if so, would you mind looking up some insurance documents?

Sure, it'll be in December as there's no Saturday opening in Nov

Thank you, that is very generous of you.

Actually, I don't think my contribution will be all that helpful.  A brief look on the FreeBMD reveals loads of Sarah Coles dying in Middlesex from 1837 to 1861... ;D ;D ;D

Lol!  Most of my ancestors have ridiculously popular names, so picking out the right Sarah Cole from London out of all the other Sarah Coles is par for the course!!

This doesn't get anyone anywhere, but there's a couple of newspaper items referring to George Cole, horse dealer, Bishopsgate, selling up his business in 1810
