Beatrice May Shropshire Baptism 1907 Chelwyn, Newport, Salop
« on: Sunday 29 October 17 17:19 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I am looking for baptism for Beatrice May Shropshire born 12 Apr 1907 in Chelwyn, Newport, Salop. She is listed in the 1911 census living with her grandparents Thomas and Harriet Shropshire in Sutton Maddock. Obviously she is the child of one of Thomas and Harriet's children but I don't know which. The eldest son Charles Thomas Shropshire married a Beatrice Bower so they seem like an obvious candidate given they married the year before Beatrice was born but I would like to be able to confirm this. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could look this up for me. Thanks in advance, Sarah

Thank you for this. When I look at the record, it doesn't list the mother's maiden name. Where did you see it listed?

I also noticed that someone has a Beatrice Shropshire born to Charles Thomas and Beatrice on their tree but born 1915. Now they could have it wrong. But if not, it would be odd for there to be two daughters called Beatrice and the former one didn't die.

Thanks. Very odd to register a baby without a name isn't it?!

Perhaps this other person knew there was a Beatrice and assumed it to be the child who was registered unknown. I have contacted them for clarification.

I gave the link on my post  :)  The index from the GRO gives mothers maiden names for these early birth registrations.

Thanks. Very odd to register a baby without a name isn't it?!

It is not odd to register a baby's birth without a first name when it is an infant death

When I went to the link first it wouldn't work but that was on my kindle. It works on my laptop. I registered and was able to search so now I can see the surname. Thank you for the tip. I wasn't aware that site gave additional information to what is shown in the BMDs on Ancestry etc. And that makes a lot of sense with regards to registering a birth with no name if it were an infant death. Thank you for finding the death record for her. Mystery solved!

In case you are thinking of ordering any birth or death certificates GRO are currently running a trial for PDF's instead of paper copies (£6 instead of £9.25)  - details on the link  ;)
